Public Fish Market: DC Southwest Waterfront

Today was my first trip to Washington DC since I was probably 10 yeas old. I am in town for a tour of the South West Anacostia Waterfront project and a meeting with One Planet Living. The City has plans for what may become one of the world “greenest” waterfronts, they have almost 80 acres of land that will be almost entirely LEED certified with hopefully a few dozen acres of One Planet Living development thrown in. Anyway more on that subject later. Tonight I am posting a few pictures of the Washington DC Public Fish Market, a very cool and lively market located on the Anacostia River. The market sits next to some very authentic fish shacks - both will remain when the site is redeveloped over the next ten years. From a distance the market appears to be in a bleak location, surrounded on one side by highway overpasses and down the street stands a bunch of one story uninviting buildings that were built by my favorite people, 1960’s urban planners (what a bunch of jerks, this area used to be filled with beautiful historic buildings, and a waterfront the public could access). Anyway here are the photos…
