Stitch: the handmade revolution

November 12th, 2007 · by Sally · No Comments · Cities, Field Trips, Travel

One of the highlights of my weekend in Austin was the moment when I zeroed in on a cool-looking silk screened poster, and noticed 1) that it was for the indie craft fair Stitch and 2) that it was going to happen when I was in town. I was thrilled.

Another highlight was the fair itself. I missed the fashion show, which looked like it was going to be rad, but was content to spend an hour or so wandering the stalls of fellow crafters, designers and artists.

The Stitch Fashion Show and Guerrilla Craft Bazaar is an annual celebration of independent design, artistry and creativity. It started 5 years ago when four Austin designers (Jesse Kelly-Landes of Amet and Sasha, Tina Sparkles of Sparkle Craft, Karly Hand of Identity Crisis Clothing and Jennifer Perkins of Naughty Secretary Club) joined forces with the goal of showcasing their own designs as well as the designs of their crafty and fashion savvy friends from around the country.

The absolute best part was when I found the laptop bag that I have been looking for for at least two years. That’s right– my perfect laptop bag. It is by local designer Kailo Chic, and produced by Pacific Designs, an Austin-based company.
