Tuesday the 19th, Mark Newport, the head of the Fiber Department at the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Detroit, spoke to a space-audience about his work. He is a fiber artist and in particular a knitter. Mark has produced a great series of super-hero inspired knit costumes that have made their way around the country, and blog world. Mark was one of the six artists presented at a recent show at the Space Gallery - Matter (view our post here), an exhibition of sculptural textiles curated by Catherine Draper as part of Space’s annual “Artists Curating Artists” series.

And right under the post about Mark Newport on Knitty.com is one about our friend Dave Cole in Providence and his Knitting Machine. It makes sense that they’d be associated- both of them are are in this funny subculture of “boy - knitters” or “manly knitting” or something. I’m curious how many more of these guys there are out there.
